Questions
How Does Ordering Online at a Dispensary Work?
Ordering online at a dispensary means browsing a licensed menu, adding products to your cart, choosing pickup or delivery, and completing checkout. You'll verify your age with a valid ID at pickup or when the driver arrives. It's legal in NYC when the dispensary is licensed by the state.
How Does Ordering Online at a Dispensary Work? A Step-by-Step Guide
Ordering online from a dispensary is straightforward. Here's the exact process, from browsing to receiving your order.
- Browse the online menu – Start by visiting the dispensary's website and selecting your desired products from their online menu. You'll see flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, tinctures, concentrates, and accessories.
- Add items to your cart – Choose the strains or products you want, note the THC/CBD content, and add them to your cart. Check for any deals or loyalty rewards.
- Choose pickup or delivery – If you're nearby, select in-store pickup. For delivery, enter your address to confirm the dispensary delivers to your area.
- Complete checkout – Provide your contact info and pay online or at pickup. You'll get an order confirmation and an estimated pickup or delivery window.
- Show your ID – Bring a valid government-issued ID showing you're 21 or older. For delivery, the driver will scan or check your ID at the door.
- Receive your order – Pick up your order at the counter or receive it in unmarked packaging. Check your items before you leave or sign.
Is Online Cannabis Ordering Legal and Safe in NYC?
Yes, ordering cannabis online is legal in New York as long as you're ordering from a licensed provider. Here's what to check to ensure safety and legality:
- Licensed dispensary – Verify the business holds a valid adult-use license from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). For example, BX Buddiez's license is OCM-CAURD-25-000297.
- Age verification – You must be 21 or older. Dispensaries use digital ID scans or manual checks to confirm your age.
- Purchase limits – New York law allows up to 3 ounces of flower and 24 grams of concentrates per day. Dispensaries track this to stay compliant.
- Privacy – Dispensaries don't share your purchase history with employers or the government. Your info is kept confidential.
- Safe packaging – Delivery orders come in unmarked packaging to keep your purchase discreet.
Delivery vs. Pickup: Which Way Should You Order?
Deciding between delivery and pickup depends on your schedule, location, and preference for immediacy. Here's a quick comparison:
| Factor | Delivery | Pickup |
|---|---|---|
| Convenience | Order from anywhere; wait at home | Must travel to the dispensary |
| Speed | Same-day if before cutoff (e.g., 12 pm) | Usually ready in 30–60 minutes |
| Privacy | Unmarked packaging, no in-store visit | You're seen entering the store |
| Cost | Delivery fee may apply; varies | No delivery fee |
| ID check | Driver checks ID at your door | Checked at the counter |
| Product availability | Same menu as in-store | Same menu as online |
If you're in the South Bronx near Mott Haven or Melrose, pickup is quick. For those in East Harlem or Hunts Point, delivery might save time.
What You Need to Place Your First Online Order
Before you start, gather these essentials:
- Valid ID – A government-issued ID (driver's license, passport, or state ID) proving you're 21 or older. Out-of-state visitors can shop too.
- Payment method – Most dispensaries accept debit cards or cash. Credit cards may not work due to federal banking laws. Check the dispensary's payment options.
- Account (optional) – Some dispensaries let you order as a guest, but creating an account speeds up future orders and tracks loyalty points.
- Delivery address – For delivery, have your exact address ready. Confirm the dispensary delivers to your zip code (like 10455 in the Bronx).
- Age verification – Be ready for a digital ID scan or manual check at pickup or delivery.
